Fall 2024 Workshops
Embroidery
September 27, 2024 | 2-3:30pm | $65
Limited to 12 students
From learning how to properly knot thread to beautiful textile art, this workshop is sure to evoke creativity. Students will learn six starter embroidery stitches and put them to use stitching on patterned fabric.
Take-home embroidery kit includes: embroidery hoop, embroidery thread, needles, curriculum including stitch references a current project and guide for “next step” project.
Basket Coiling
October 4, 2024 | 2-3:30pm | $65
Limited to 12 students
This workshop will teach the basics to basket coiling. We’ll walk through how to start a basket coil with easily available material. Unlike needlecrafts, we’ll use a blunt tip needle that is perfect for little ones and experts alike.
Your basket-maker will bring home the start of their creation! Basket-making kit includes: yarn, blunt-tip needle, curriculum and guide for “next step” project.
Beginner Knitting
October 11, 2024 | 2-3:30pm | $65
Limited to 6 students: This workshop has been updated to focus on more one-on-one instruction, ages 8+
Students will begin this workshop by learning how to finger knit to create a chain. Once this skill is mastered, they will learn how to hold knitting needles, create a slip knot, cast on and create a knit stitch. Students prepared to advance will learn how to create a purl stitch.
Your artisan will complete the workshop with the foundational skills of knitting. Take-home knitting kit includes: knitting needles, yarn, curriculum with reference sheets, guide for “next step” project and more!
Guided Drawing
October 16, 2024 | 10-11:30am | $65
Limited to 12 students: This workshop is perfect for young artists!
This workshop will teach the basics of drawing with markers. Students will be led through step-by-step instructions to create a drawing. There is an emphasis on drawing from shapes to create recognizable objects and characters.
Your artisan will complete the workshop with elementary drawing concepts. The take-home kit includes: pencils, eraser, markers, drawing paper, drawing curriculum and a guide for a “next step” project.
Beginner Stippling
October 25, 2024 | 2-3:30pm | $65
Limited to 12 students
Stippling is a drawing technique that uses dots, hashes and lines to create an image. Students will learn about shadows and highlights and how they relate to dots per inch. Each child will select an image to practice stippling.
Your young artist will complete this workshop with the foundational knowledge of light, contrast and shading as it applies to artwork. Take-home stippling kits include: technical pens in various weights, art paper, tracing paper, stippling curriculum, and guide for “next step” project.
Hand Sewing
November 1, 2024 | 2-3:30pm | $65
Limited to 12 students
Reminiscent of home economics class, this workshop will teach children the basics of sewing by hand. We’ll cover four basic stitches and their uses, how to sew on a button and what stitch works best for various applications!
Take-home sewing kit includes: needles, thread, curriculum including stitch references, guide for “next step” project and more.
Basics of Crochet
November 8, 2024 | 2-3:30pm | $65
Limited to 6 students: This workshop has been updated to focus on more one-on-one instruction, ages 8+
This workshop introduces the basic concepts of crocheting. Students will begin with learning how to properly hold a crochet hook and yarn. They will progress to learning beginning stitches. Once mastered, students will advance to half double crochet, double crochet, and treble crochet. We will also cover stitch abbreviations and how to read a pattern.
Your artisan will walk away with the knowledge to start crocheting. Take-home crochet kit includes: a crochet hook, yarn, curriculum with stitch references, guide for “next step” project and more!
Hand Lettering
November 13, 2024 | 10-11:30am | $65
Limited to 12 students
This workshop will teach how to properly form modern calligraphy lettering with a brush pen. We will begin with using an ink pen to practice lettering forms and swashes. Students will learn faux calligraphy using ink before advancing to a brush pen.
Your artist will have the skills to brush letter their name, favorite quote or verse. Take-home lettering kit includes: brush pens, tracing paper, heavy weight paper, curriculum including letter guide and a guide for “next step” project.
Air Dry Ornaments
November 15, 2024 | 2-3:30pm | $65
Limited to 12 students: Perfect for young artists!
Just in time for Christmas, this workshop will guide students through the process of making air-dry clay ornaments. Children will learn how to work with the clay, shape it using their hands or a shape cutter and how to stamp.
This fun workshop will include ornaments to take home!
Each 90 minute workshop will provide hands-on learning in a small group setting
Workshops include take-home art supplies, reference curriculum and next level instruction
Your young artisan will walk away with a new skill and ready to practice at home with a WIP (work-in-progress) project
Meet Your Instructor: Lauren Miller
Lauren is formally trained in art and has 20+ years of working with various artistic mediums. Years of practice have led to mastery in texile, fiber and classical art forms. She is a professional designer and illustrator who has found success licensing surface designs. Her greatest title is mother to four elementary school aged children!
